I'm not sure what you mean by a short time. America has been very strategic over the past 100 years in terms of entering world wars towards the end and always ending on the winning side. We didn't experience the destruction of either world war, due to the fact that they took place in Europe, but we were able to reap the financial benefits. I think the prominence of America has been steadily growing, but I'm not sure how long that will last. I think at this point the US is too overextended and trying to meddle in too many places.
